There were broad smiles as pupils at Chuma and Sivuyiseni primary schools received shoes from a back-to-school winter drive.
Councillor Mthwalo Mkhutshwana thanked the two companies for their effort.
“I used to go to school barefoot and I know the pain. My parents could not afford it and that also pained them and I am happy to see these young learners getting shoes,” said Mr Mkhutshwana.
The pint sized Tik-tok celebrity Vovo Mgayi Nguqubalso addressed the pupils at the handover, urging them to stay neat and attend school regularly.
“Use these shoes to walk into the future. Be thankful because somewhere in Khayelitsha there is a shoeless child because parents cannot afford it,” said Vovo.
