Edyardini Community Development received a donation of baking equipment and groceries worth R35 000 on Tuesday, May 14.
The Khayelitsha NPO was established in 2020 and includes a soup kitchen, after-school programme, drama and dance classes, and a vegetable garden, all aimed at contributing to the wellbeing of children and the community.
The goods from the MTN Western Cape regional office were purchased from funds raised from the 2023/24 MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative.
Ululations, singing and whistles erupted when the regional marketing manager, Lache Woldson-Samuels, distributed and handed over the food parcels and the baking materials including the stove.
Woldson-Samuels praised Edyardini Community Development founder, Iris Busakwe.
“We have been impressed by her wonderful work. We are here to support her. We were here last year and gave out laptops. Each year, through the Goals for Charity initiative, we meet different organisations that are doing remarkable work for their communities and this year is no different. We at MTN, want to extend our appreciation to Mama Iris and her team for tirelessly giving their time and effort to care for the precious little lives we see here today.”
Ms Busakwe said she recently had to borrow baking materials from another organisation and now God has answered her prayers. “I am so grateful. Gratitude to MTN staff for this. I am also involved in other projects. The aim is to give skills to young and old people of Khayelitsha. We want to better our society,” she said.
