Church members have come to the aid of a struggling Khayelitsha grandmother, donating a month’s supply of groceries.
A thrilled Joyce Mfubu, 77, who lives with her two grandchildren, said she was very grateful for the food provided by the members of the Wesleyan Church from Langa on Saturday May 11.
The church members had been heaven-sent as her old-age pension – her only source of income – was not enough to cover basic needs until the end of the month, she said, adding that the food would last her until the end of the month.
“I have no words to thank them, but I’m glad. I hope God blesses them more and more. May what they have done to me be done to others. From today, I’m part of your family, even if I die today, it is this church that will bury me.”
Speaking to Ms Mfubu, Reverend Mbuyiseni Mzabane said: “This shows that God loves you, and He wanted to show you His love through us.”
Kamva Makaba, a church official, said they would visit Ms Mfubu frequently and try to help her whenever she needed it.
“This is what churches are supposed to do, taking care of the vulnerable. Nowadays, there are fly-by-night churches that are scamming the same people they are supposed to be helping,” said a resident, Ziyanda Vumazonke.
