Operations at the Gugulethu fire station have been suspended following an attack last night.
It’s reported that trouble started when vandals torched a car and a carport at the Fezeka Municipal Office next to the fire station.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, but soon the group turned on them, hurling stones at their building, causing damage to the bay doors.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said: “The City’s chief fire officer has suspended operations at the Gugulethu fire station as a result. These facilities serve the community and an attack on it, is a direct attack on the community.”
Last July, the Gugulethu fire station shut down after it was targeted by protesters.
It took nearly six months to repair damages.Â
The City of Cape Town has urged members of the community to report those who are behind the attacks.
