South African Christian Movement (SACM) members spent a day at Masigcine Children’s Home where they entertained children and shared their 13th anniversary cake.
The non-profit organisation was founded on February 17 2010 in Mfuleni with the aim of uniting Christians in South Africa and playing a role in the development of communities.
The organisation made a friendly visit to the children’s home at the weekend, bringing with them much-needed essential items for its 27 young residents.
Zwelandile Nquma, president of the SACM, described the visit as “fulfilling and an eye opener”.
He said there was a lot that they did not know about the home and after interacting with the home’s management they have a better idea of what their organisation needs to contribute.
“What an experience to many of us who have never been there. The orphanage needed a lot of things including toiletries so we helped them where we could. We contributed with whatever we had even though it was not much. But we know that it made a huge difference,” he told Vukani.
Mr Nquma thanked his organisation and some members of the community who accompanied them and promised to visit again. “We also appreciate the staff of the home for allowing us to come visit and play with children. We also believe that the home will get more help from others.”
He said they had asked community members to help by donating uniforms. “Now the children can look presentable and not feel left out when they attend school.”
Social Worker Kedibone Sono, said they welcome visitors and the donations with open arms. “They gave out party packs and shared their cake with our children. That to us is a great thing. We really appreciate when people think about us. We encourage people to come visit even if these are not their children,” she said,
Ms Sono said without the public’s assistance they cannot achieve anything. The happy social worker said everyone’s involvement will really play a big role in the home.
Anyone who would like to donate can call the home on 021 901 005.
