A songbird whose father died earlier this year, launched her album on Saturday.
Lindi Mili Gcilishe, from Khayelitsha, is a well-travelled musician, having touched down in Austria, Botswana, England, Germany and Switzerland where she toured with various theatre groups.
Mili, whose father Bricks Gcilishe died in February said she was inspired by “creativity” in her family.
“My father always encouraged me to follow my passion and I am sure he is smiling in heaven now,” she said.
Supporting her at the launch of her debut album were her mother Nomonde, brother Lunga and a host of friends who gathered in a white tent in Epakeni.
“We were careful not to break lockdown regulations and we pulled out a great show,” she said.
The single features Ed Harris with collaborations from Nostaljik Soul’s Lusindiso Tsotso.
“I found inspiration in many places that I have traveled to where I did live performances, that influenced my creative style in music. I create music with quality and passion,” Mili said.
Mili is a graduate of UCT’s faculty of humanities in performing arts. “Music allows me to use my creativity and explore, and being a vocalist and composer requires focus on rhythm, melody, harmony, vocals and perception,” she said.
“I intend for others to experience my heartening and influential music. I am spreading the love of music and want to make people happy and joyful through my music. I want my music to heal souls and encourage people to believe that everything is possible and to be an inspiration.”
