A gutsy performance saw Langa’s Citizens FC secure their spot in the next round of Safa Cape Town’s Coke Cup competition when they beat favourites Jamestown United 8-7 in a tense penalty shootout, in Wynberg, on Sunday.
Depite multiple scoring chances and leading 1-0 for most of the match, Jamestown’s Coke Cup ambitions came to a grinding halt thanks to Citizens’ Thabo Zaba’s late equaliser that forced the match into penalties.
The shootouts were a tense affair as both sets of players were not prepared to give an inch.
However, there had to be a winner and Citizens emerged victorious, winning 8-7 to book their spot in the quarter-finals.
