Tygerberg Cricket Club produced a convincing performance to beat the newly-promoted Gugulethu in a Western Province Cricket Association First Division A match, at NY49, at the weekend..
The home side won the toss and elected to bowl on day one, a fortnight ago. Tygerberg then took to the crease and recorded a first innings total of 219 all out.
Sibusiso Maseko, with bowling figures of three wickets for 34 runs in his nine-over spell, and Thabiso Nkompora, who recorded the figures of three wickets for 33 runs in 13 overs, were the pick of Gugs’ bowling attack in the first innings.
Gugs’ batting line-up, spearheaded by Lwando Tywaku and Mbuyiselo Xakana, tried to chase the visitors’ total but wereeventually bowled out for 148 in their first innings. Tywaku top-scored with 47 runs. He was ably-supported by Xakana who scored 40 runs. Leading by 71 runs going in to the second innings, Tygerberg declared on 160/7. Chasing 231 Gugulethu fell 98 runs short of reaching their target.
