The Cape Town Arts Festival (CTAF) together with Langa Vibes will host the Langa Community Arts Festival to celebrate 100 Years of Langa on Saturday June 10 at Guga S’thebe Arts and Culture Centre from 10am to 6pm.
Langa Vibes was born out of the Creative Community Connectors Project, a Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme run by the Craft and Design Institute in partnership with the CTAF. It started in October 2022 and provides unemployed artists an opportunity to earn an income while playing a role in community building.
The multi-genre arts and culture festival on Saturday will offer workshops in the morning from 10am to noon for primary and high school children in weaving, fashion design, face painting, bead work, music theory and creative writing.
The afternoon slot from 1pm to 5.30pm includes a music theatre production from Langa Vibes collectives, guest speakers, a visual arts exhibition, and performances from local artists as well as headliners such as SimulationRXPS, Fancy Galada and Nceba Gongxeka.
Entry is free to the event. There will also be clothing, food and craft vendors. Email langavibe@gmail.com for more information.
