A total of 500 people were arrested over the past week, in the Nyanga Cluster Policing precinct. More than 220 of them were arrested for possession of drugs.
A total of 88 people were wanted suspects, and the rest were apprehended for crimes ranging from murder and attempted murder, hijacking, dealing in liquor, crimes against women and children, possession of stolen and hijacked vehicles, possession of burglary tools and stolen property.
Six unlicensed firearms, and ammunition, were confiscated along with 2400g of dagga, 178 mandrax tablets, 81 tik units, 27g of heroine, counterfeit goods and more than 2 230 litres of liquor.
The arrests were the results of continual stop and searches.
Meanwhile, Harare police arrested 34 people for crimes ranging from possession of stolen property, possession of drugs, driving under the influence of liquor and selling liquor without a licence from Thursday May 12 until Sunday May 15.
A total of 11 traffic fines were issued during a roadblock.
Eighteen people were arrested for possession of drugs ranging from tik, dagga and mandrax. Police confiscated 180g of dagga, 2g of tik and 8 mandrax tablets.
Five people were arrested for possession of stolen property, three for possession of dangerous weapons, two for drunken driving and six for selling liquor without licence.
“Harare SAPS will continuously conduct these kinds of operations in an attempt to stabilise the crime rate in our community.
“We also would like to encourage the residents to continue assisting the police by reporting any illegal activities,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant Siyabulela Vukubi.
