Donations are streaming in for more than 1300 people left homeless by a deadly fire in Khayelitsha’s Silver Town informal settlement on Saturday October 21.
The fire destroyed more than 300 homes and claimed the life of 30-year-old Sango Nqeneka.
The cause of the blaze is still unknown.
Companies, aid organisations and ordinary members of the public are helping the victims.
The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre spokeswoman Mandy Thomas said the South African Social Services Agency was also giving humanitarian aid, and donations were “pouring in” from the public.
“The City wishes to thank everyone for their willingness to assist in this regard,” she said.
All donations can be dropped off at the Khayelitsha fire station.
In a separate incident, a fire that tore through the Kosovo informal settlement in Philippi last night destroyed more than 120 homes and left hundreds homeless.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. No injuries were reported.
