The Gugulethu Community Health Centre’s Maternity Obstetric Unit (MOU) is undergoing an electrical upgrade.
On Saturday April 30, the contractor will be upgrading the electrical distribution board, which requires a complete electricity shutdown in the MOU for approximately eight hours.
The shutdown and upgrading will take place during the day, and management of the facility has requested assistance from Hanover Park Community Health Centre’s MOU to accommodate labour ward patients and staff for that period.
Arrangements have been made with the Emergency Medical Services team to have an ambulance on standby to facilitate the transfer of patients from Gugulethu CHC to Hanover Park CHC on the day. Services will run as normal on Sunday May 1.
“We request some understanding and cooperation from the community, as the much-needed electrical upgrade is in the best interest of both our patients and staff, and will allow us to provide an effective and improved healthcare service,” said Monique Johnstone, spokeswoman for the Department of Health.
