Innovation Edge, an investor organisation which addresses challenges relating to early childhood development, is offering funding and support worth R1.3 million for projects focused on active fathers and father figures across South Africa.
The deadline for applications is Thursday September 22.
Innovation Edge executive director Llewellyn Fredericks said the absence of fathers in many households had created challenging generational legacies for many South Africans.
“We would like to promote the role of nurturing, involved fathers, through organisations that support them, because their impact on children between the ages of zero to six is tangible and significant,” he said.
The screening process will involve an internal assessment of the application, an interview with those considered eligible and further due diligence beyond the interview. Mr Fredericks said they hoped to choose the successful applicants by November.
“We are not looking for perfect pitches, but rather social enterprises and enterprising NGOs that are passionate about promoting the involvement of fathers; and unusual suspects that are not traditionally engaged in the ECD sector. We hope the organisations that apply will have a mindset of partnering with us to achieve impact in the sector,” he said.
