Former Lehlohonolo Primary School pupils displayed the true meaning of Ubuntu when they donated 65 pairs of shoes and 40 packs of sanitary towels to their alma mater last Friday, March 8.
Amanda Ngubeni, a former pupil, said she came up with the idea of uniting past pupils and doing something meaningful for the school.
She said the group had been together from Grade 1 to Grade 12 and spent their childhood and teenage years together.
“We felt that we wanted to give back to the school and teachers who mothered and fathered us.
“Last year, we had a reunion where we invited our former teachers and we said thank you to them for being our parents and teaching us good morals.
“We want to be part and parcel of the school in making a difference and ensuring that these children get the best education support they could wish for,” she said.
School principal Veronica Ntskie Seaba said the Lehlohonolo Primary alumni are a blessing and she appreciates their efforts.
She also urged parents to register their children early to get placement at the school.
Another former pupil, Tumelo Mutana, said they have devoted themselves to ensuring that they make Lehlohonolo Primary School one of the great schools in Gugulethu.
