Cape Citizens Football Club in Site B were handed 10 soccer balls by a waste management company on Monday.
The donation comes in response to calls by the club for help.
Club coach Akhona Ndevu said they are grateful for the donation, which came at the right time when they need balls the most. He said five of the balls would be used for training while the other five would be match-day balls.
Speaking at the handover, Ithalomso Waste Management representative, Monde Nqulwana said the donation is to ensure that the club keeps providing an alternative platform for young boys so they are not lured into a life of drug abuse and crime.
“We want to encourage the team to keep their doors open as they are helping young boys to sharpen their dreams of becoming professional footballers. We hope that this donation would make a difference in their lives,” he said.
