Mfuleni songbird Thomokazi Siphesihle Mlamleli is determined to leave a lasting legacy in gospel circles.
Thomo, as she is affectionately known by her growing legion of fans, has two albums under her belt, with her latest offering Uzuko Ku Thixo, having been released in March. Her first album was called Ngenelela Thixo.
“On this album I worked with my husband, Pastor MS Mlamleli (and others). We worked very hard to produce this during a difficult time of Covid-19 pandemic,” said Thomo.
She was born in Lusikisiki and obtained a Bachelor of Sports Science degree and a Postgraduate Certificate In Education (PGCE) from the University Of kwaZulu-Natal.
The mother of two started singing at the age of 10 and has honed her skill by performing in churches, and at schools, funerals and weddings.
“My gift of worshipping developed after I accepted Jesus Christ,” she told Vukani.
“As I grew up, my exquisite voice became known to a point where I was chosen to be part of AFM National Conference Praise and Worship Team that, under the leadership of Chumani Ngojo, won the 2017 Crown Gospel Award,” she said.
Last year she was nominated for an Ukhonukamva Award with where her song winning in the category for best traditional music .
“It was an amazing experience to be nominated in the category,” she said.
