She might have set her eyes on snatching the coveted Empress South Africa title but the petite Phatheka Magongoma, 27, is tough as nails when it comes to crime fighting.
Patty, as she is fondly known, is a police woman stationed in Kraaifontein with burning ambitions to showcase her beauty.
“Before I went to police college I was always interested in the catwalk and the world of modelling in general,” she said.
She has now reached the semi-final of the competition and is calling on Vukani readers to vote for her.
“I have come here to appeal to the newspaper’s readers to help me through their votes,” said Patty.
If she wins the title, Patty plans to use her reign to campaign for the rights of women and children.
‘”In my line of duty I see a lot of traumatised women and children, I want to change that through various anti-abuse campaigns that will give voice to those affected and impacted,” Patty told Vukani.
She says her experience in the last three years serving at the SAPS provincial intervention team has taught that “compassion can change peoples lives”.
“I entered this beauty pageant to show that police are human too and they also want to make a difference in people’s lives,” she said.
The Empress South Africa 2019 finals will be held at the Sun Coast Casino in Durban in December.
You can vote for Patty by texting “Phatheka” to 35334 before the end of August.
