The Mafenuka quadruplets turn one

Baby Bunono was the most active during the party.

It was a time for celebration as the Mafenuka quadruplets turned one this week.

The occasion was marked with a party at Kfm’s studio on Wednesday morning.

The babies – Bubele, Buchule, Bunono and Bungcwele – were born to Inga Mafenuka at the Tygerberg Hospital and after the story of their birth broke, the radio station started a campaign to raise funds for them (“Mom’s blessings are quadrupled”, Vukani, July 12).

“We have hosted a baby shower for Inga, had regular check-ins with her, and called on station partners LottoStar, who gifted Inga and the babies with R10 000 per month for the first year of their lives. Our friends at Clicks and the Clicks Helping Hands Trust also supported the babies with a year’s worth of supplies,” said Stephen Werner, Kfm 94.5 Programme Manager.

Assisted by her family, a proud Ms Mafenuka walked into the studio to enjoy a traditional cake-smash experience, handing over of gifts and Capetonians wishing the Mafenuka babies a happy birthday, both on and off-air.

And then came another announcement which would further change the life of the young mom – she would be getting a bursary from the Community Chest.

“LeadSA and Kfm 94.5 reached out to us, to find out how together we can make a long-term effect on the lives of quadruplets and Inga.

“We believe in a hand-up and not a hand-out and will be presenting Inga with the Siyakubona award – a R35 000 initial investment and then journey with Inga to complete her information technology course”, said Lorenzo Davids, the organisation’s chief executive officer.
