Lockdown time for most wanted criminal

Sergeant Simphiwe Matsha was among the policemen who arrested the suspects who are alleged to be collecting protection fees from spaza owners of foreign descent.

One of Khayelitsha’s most wanted criminals has been arrested. According to Gugulethu police spokesperson Constable Sindisiwe Ngqele, the man has been linked to incidents of theft, murder and robbery in Khayelitsha over the past two years.

Constable Ngqele said on Wednesday March 31, Gugulethu Police Crime Prevention Unit arrested three suspects, two men and a woman, for extortion.

They were in possession of one firearm with 15 rounds of ammunition.

She said one suspect, who goes by the name of Dwaff has been on the run after being linked to cases of murder and attempted murder in Khayelitsha. “The suspects are 37, 43 and 48 respectively. One of the men was wanted for cases of murder and robbery in Khayelitsha. The suspects appeared at Athlone Magistrate’s Court last Friday and remained in custody,” she said.

She added that they had also been linked to the illegal collection of money from Somali-owned shops.
