Gugulethu actor and visual artist, Vukile Handula, has died and will be buried next Saturday from his NY74 home.
Described as “a little known moralist” by one of South African top writers, Bongani Madondo, Handula will be remembered for his role in Brett Bailey’s groundbreaking theatre pieces Ipi Zombi and iMumbo Jumbo.Â
“Vukile’s beautiful soul is and will hopefully forever be reflected on his bright yellow mural of his NY74 home. He will be forever remembered for reminding us important African struggle dates continuously updated each time on his mural wall,” said Luvuyo Kakaza, a local arts activist.
Handula played the role of Chief Gcaleka in iMumbo Jumbo (1997) and Ipi Zombi (1995). Kakaza said Handula had a rich history in community theatre since the 1980s.
“He was a community historian and socialite whose laughter was bigger than his heart,” said Kakaza.Â
