Tenor Tamsanqa Tylor Lamani, from Khayelitsha, joins the stellar cast of the show Master Class at Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay from Monday February 20 to Saturday March 11.

Master Class is a portrait of singer Maria Callas, played by theatre doyenne Sandra Prinsloo, in the context of the master classes Callas gave at the Juilliard School in New York in 1971.

Lamani originally hails from Gqeberha and is a graduate from the South African College of Music and the University of Cape Town.

He says that his passion for singing was sparked at a young age. He took part in school singing competitions and while still in high school, he became a member of the Spier Young Voices Ensemble and performed various opera ensembles and solo arias under the tutelage of Danie Theron. After obtaining his engineering degree, he became an ad hoc member of the Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble.

Lamani has performed in various Cape Town Opera productions by Cape Town Opera and has travelled and performed abroad in Germany, Scotland, Sweden, Copenhagen and the United Kingdom (UK).

Master Class is directed by Cape Town Opera’s artistic director Magdalene Minnaar and features show stopping arias by Verdi, Puccini and Bellini. Aside from Sandra Prinsloo, Lamani will be performing alongside Cape Town Opera Soloist Brittany Smith and fellow Judith Neilson Young Artist, Alida Scheepers.

Tickets cost from R180 to R280 through Webtickets.
