The recent exhibition tennis match held in Cape Town between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer exposed deep seated white hypocrisy.
The stadium recorded a world tennis match attendance record, something which you don’t see when South African black-dominated sporting codes host events.
Go to an Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs derby and you will find a predominantly black audience. Come to Cape Town Stadium on Friday evenings to watch a Stellenbosch FC match you will find a black audience – this, of course, depends on whether the powers that be will make the stadium available. Residents of Newlands and the surrounding areas noisily protested about the noise caused by soccer spectators.
To rub salt into the wound these two players are not even the best ATP players in the world at the moment, the indomitable Djokovic is the greatest of all.
The money collected from the people who attended this joke of a match could have long been collected from these rich people to save South Africa from the ravages of recession, to bring about the much needed development, something which would make our Third World country a First World country.
The same people who attended this spectacle are quick to talk about black corruption as if the apartheid regime never committed any crimes against the majority of the citizens.
My plea to these sorry folks is that they should go out in their numbers to support national sports teams thereby showing regret for the actions of the racist apartheid regime.
