Two on-duty law enforcement officers were killed while protecting workers at a construction project in Sweet Homes, Philippi yesterday.
The officers were shot and seriously wounded. They were airlifted to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
Mayor Dan Plato has sent his condolences to the families of the two officers.
He said the City would work with the police in doing everything possible to apprehend the perpetrators.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said: “We have lost members who gave their lives to protect others, while their families lost loved ones and breadwinners. I urge communities to respect the law and the officers charged with their safekeeping. We need to respect our law enforcement officials who serve our communities and safeguard lives and property.”
In November 2018, two security guards were shot and wounded at the construction site.Â
