Unbeaten boxing prospects Simamkele Tutsheni and Owen Venganayi both continued their winning streaks on Friday, September 30, at the Sunningdale sports complex, bringing Tutsheni’s record to seven wins and Venganayi’s to five.
Promoted by Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions, Western Cape Junior Featherweight Female Champion Tutsheni and promising Featherweight boxer Venganayi were a part of the Battle of the Foreshore bill.
It was headlined by the new champions, Lwando Mgabi who took the WBF Africa and SA Junior Bantamweight belt and Asekho Nocele the WBF Intercontinental Bantamweight title.
Brice has produced nine champions since 2022, including two SA Champions last month.
Female provincial champion, Tutsheni, from Langa, fighting out of 9Sai Boxing Club in Khayelitsha, said she is ready for a shot at the SA Junior Featherweight Title, after a six round points win against Pamela Matunga.
“The fight went well. I am still unbeaten. I am still aiming for the SA title. If you want to be the best, you must aim high. I am up but I still have to work much harder because there are more competitions coming up front,” said Tutsheni.
After a day’s rest, following his second-round technical knockout win against Wanda Duda, Venganayi, from Blood, Sweat & Tears, is back in the gym, staying fit and ready for his next challenge.
“I really worked hard for this fight. I really felt hungry and my mindset was having that killer instinct. The guy was a great fighter. He was there to bring up a fight. The team and I had our own game-plan. At the end of the day, I managed to stop him and win the fight,” he said.
Future Champs’ Asavela Peter, from Philippi, extended his record to 3-1, with a a six round points win over Simamkele Finini.
“The fight was alright. When it looked like it was starting to become difficult, I made it easy. Everyone was happy with the win I heard people saying welcome back. I am excited with the win,” said Peter.
