Amateur fighters will be showcasing their skills in the ring in the boxing extravaganza themed Drama on the Plaza presented by Future Champs.
The blow-by-blow affair will take place on Saturday October 26 at Phillipi Plaza in Govan Mbeki Road. A total of 14 amateur bouts will take place in what promises to be a showcase of the best amateur boxing the city has to offer.
Five amateur boxing clubs will be taking part.
There will also be music and entertainment from local DJ’s and Gospel performances.
The bill is topped by amateur prospect Asavela Peter of Future Champs Boxing Club who takes on Sazi Mkhanzi from Grass Roots Boxing Club in what promises to be a clash of styles and the meeting of two talented fighters who have showed before what they can offer in the amateur ranks.
The co-main event features a women’s bout between Ongeziwe Poni from Grass Roots Boxing Club taking on Sisonke Ntshanga of Cape Town Youth Boxing Club.
“This is an important event on many levels, especially being staged in Philippi, its vital that we work together and facilitate partnerships with civil society, the local community and local business to provide a platform for youth,”said Jeremy Bean of Future Champs..
“The event is very much a test and if successful we aim to roll out a regular circuit with a fixed calendar of events throughout the year.
“I have applied some experience having promoted in the professional boxing space to bring on commercial partners and present a ROI and social impact proposition working in tandem.”
There will also be child-friendly activities like fun rides and a jumping castles. The event starts at 11am.
