The youngsters present were all smiles last Saturday September 21, having been part of the MTN8 Cup Football Legends Roadshow in the Cape Metro.
The fun started on Thursday with Injongo Primary in Khayelitsha being the main beneficiary.
The legendary players had their hands full when they visited media houses before heading to Injongo to conduct football coaching clinics and donated three full soccer kits, soccer boots and present the prestigious cup to the pupils.
When they arrived at the school it was all joy, ululations and flutes from the joyful crowd. To many school children their dreams came true – being close to, taking pictures with and seeing former Orlando Pirates captains Benedict “Tso” Vilakazi and former Santos skipper, Edries Burton.
The two legends also donated soccer kit and conducted coaching clinics at the Khayelitsha school before doing activations at the Khayelitsha Mall.
Young Lelethu Mhambi only saw Tso Vilakazi in his last playing days. But even so he was his favourite Orlando Pirates player. “He is my favourite player that I enjoyed watching. I was so excited to see him. Pity I did not speak to him but I will never forget this moment,” he said.
Burton encouraged the youngsters to be disciplined and listen to their coaches while Vilakazi advised themto to stick to their books.
The MTN8 Cup final will be played on Saturday October 5 between Highlands Park and SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium.
