Mayor Dan Plato met with the representatives of the Cape Music School at the request of to discuss Athlone Stadium yesterday.
Mr Plato explained the challenges facing the stadium and the importance of ensuring that the facility is compliant with the provisions of the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Act (SASREA) No.2 of 2010, while balancing the needs of the community who utilise the venue for events, sport and social use.
All the users of the stadium have been asked to assist the City and to give their cooperation while the City carries out internal alterations to ensure compliance.Â
This will allow the existing occupants to remain in site. The necessary internal alterations will not affect the structural integrity of the stadium.
In additional to these minor works, a specialist business analyst will be appointed to assist with determining the future optimal functionality of the facility.
