They recorded their eighth win in ten matches when they beat Manenberg Rangers 27-22 in their Super League C encounter away, at the weekend.
With two games in hand, the Bees are now fourth in the standings, having collected 38 points in 10 matches. With only 14 points off leaders Macassar, who have played two games more, the Bees are serious contenders for a top-two finish, or even winning the title.
Having said that, however, if their performance against Rangers is anything to go by, the coach Hilton Petinger and his technical team have a lot of work to do. The team’s lack of discipline almost cost them against Rangers, as they conceded a number of unnecessary penalties.
Fifteen of Rangers’ 22 points came from penalties, but Bees outscored them by four tries to one.
Rangers’ only try came late in the game through fullback Adiel Arnold. For Bees, centre Ayabonga Dumke scored two tries. Fikile Jeremiah scored a penalty and a try, and Thando Tshokotshi added another.
Played in front of a decent and vocal crowd in Rangers’ backyard, the match was a fast-paced one, with end-to-end action.
The home side’s supporters came out in their numbers, but the visitors also enjoyed strong spectator support.
The sides were tied at 22-22 in the dying minutes of the match before Bees broke the hearts of Rangers when they scored another try in the last moments of the game, for a final score of 27-22.
The Bees will return to their hive, Langa Stadium, to take on bottom of the table Young Stars.
Stars will be a tricky side to face considering they have nothing to lose except their pride.
