They beat Rock-A-Fellas 2-1 in the final to cling the title. Young Mbongeni, on the other hand, walked away with the top goal-scorer award having found the back of the net six times in five matches. Their opponents, Fellas, didn’t walk away empty-handed as their caption Valesco Moos was named player of the tournament. The tournament was established 13 years ago as an under-11 competition and, in 2017, was converted into an under-12 event. Golden United’s convenor of juniors, Sowyba Jones, said this year’s event featured 24 boys teams.
This year also saw the introduction of a girls’ under-13 tournament, with five teams vying for honours. RV United, also from Khayelitsha, won the girls’ section, beating YMCA 1-0 in the final.
