Khayelitsha boxers Zumbonge Noncele and Mbulelo Gabula were unbeaten in their respective divisions during a Maxim Promotions Friday Fight Night boxing event at Hope Street, in Gardens, at the weekend.
Noncele proved to be too tough for Xolisa Matane following a KO win in the first round.
Gabula won via unanimous points decision against Fezeko Maginindane who used most of his speed to move around the ring. However, Gabula adjusted well to close him down to collect most of the points between the rounds.
The surprise of the night came through Sandiso Kotta, from Dunoon, after he beat DRC’s Patrick Mampuya Sindani via a TKO decision in the second round.
Sindani started off well, knocking down Kotta in the opening round.
However, the determined Kota adjusted well and used his power punches to force Sindani to call it No Mas (no more) in his corner via second round TKO.
In other action, meeting in catchweight, Siphamandla Maliti, remains unbeaten after two professional fights following his draw against Gcina Makhoba.
The southpaw utilised the width of the ring and used his jab well to set up his straight left punch.
His opponent, Makhoba, showed exactly why it would be no walk in the park against him as he caught Maliti with a couple of nasty blows that would have sent another fighter down to the canvas.
However, Maliti kept his composure. He held Makhoba’s dangerous right, swerved him off balance and delivered his own blows.
While Maliti remains unbeaten, this was Makhoba’s first draw from four wins and one loss in his professional career.
In other undercard results, Sandiso Centane lost via points decision to Mouton Vianco after four rounds of an entertaining flyweight bout.
Frank Masden beat Saidi Habibu in a four-round middleweight battle.
In the main bout of the night, Johannes Salie lost a points decision to Christian Bobo, in their six-round middleweight clash.
The win was Bobo’s third in the ring to go with one loss.
