Women stand firm in the line of duty

Female officers commended for a job welldone

To mark Women’s Month, women law enforcement officers conducted road operations in Langa on Friday August 5.

The women police officers together with their traffic counterparts conducted operations at the corner of Bhunga Avenue and the N1. They were later joined by their male colleagues.

Langa police station’s Captain Nondumiso Paul said Women’s Month was an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on women’s achievements, as well as what they are capable of.

“It is Women’s Month so we want to show that we can stand as one and do our work without any supervision from male counterparts. But also it is women and children that are mostly dying on the roads. Women are here to stop that,” she said.

Captain Paul said they planned to conduct such operations beyond Women’s Month. “The intentions are clear, we will do this even beyond women’s month. In fact we did this before and we will continue doing it as women and as part of our job. This is not the end,” she said.

Lieutenant Colonel Lakhiwe Mbaxa also emphasised that women officers would continue doing their jobs whether it was Women’s Month or not.

Community member and human rights lobbyist Nosipho Daniels who was part of the operation praised the women for doing a sterling job.

“Women’s month is important because it is the time when we have more chances to speak to people. Like today we distributed thousands of gender based pamphlets to motorists. We also want people to learn and fight GBV. Hats off to these mbokodos for standing up today. I am happy to see women taking control in stopping crime,” She said.

Ms Daniels said she also attended in her capacity as a member of the Langa Community Policing Forum and was joined by the CPF’s secretary Alfred Magwaca who was also impressed with the operation.

During the two-hour operation, more than 500 vehicles were stopped and checked, with fines being issued for traffic violations, including driving unlicensed vehicles.
