Ward 36 candidate was ‘called by his community’

Unity, peace, stability and development tops the agenda for Mlungisi Noludwe, the DA’s Ward 36 candidate in the upcoming municipal elections.

Mr Noludwe is optimistic about becoming the area’s new ward councillor.

The 48-year-old who contested the previous local government elections under the banner of the Congress of the People (COPE), said his participation in this year’s election was in response to a call by his community. He said the decision had not been an easy one, but as an active member of the DA, he could not speak against the people.

“Contesting this election was not an easy decision for me,” he said. “I am a busy man and I would have loved to spend some time with my family. But I did not want to disappoint people who have put their faith in me.”

Mr Noludwe said his track record in the community speaks for itself, adding that he had been approached by other parties to contest the elections on their behalf because of his skills and expertise in the community.

He said he served Crossroads for many years and saw the councillor position as another way to serve the community. His immediate plan would be to bring unity, stability and peace to what he termed a “polarised community”. He said the community was gripped with fear due to autocratic leaders and warring factions.

“People in Crossroads are scared to stand up. It is just a mess and we need to advance people’s fight for freedom and liberation,” he said, urging people to go out to vote.

“People of Crossroads must choose someone they are not going to be scared of, someone they can trust,” he said. “The other important thing is to ensure that people are involved in decision making, not just a few individuals making decisions for them.”

He also highlighted housing and recreational facilities as other areas of concern. “Our grounds are on detention ponds and in winter they cannot be used. We need to provide recreational centres, parks and indoor sports centres,” he said.
