Slain woman’s needs help

Gogo Nonkululeko Apleni is struggling to bury her daughter. Here she is trying to check all the policies to see if Anita was registered.

A grieving New Crossroads family is struggling to bury its daughter Anita Kiva, 20, who was brutally killed with a beer bottle.

Members of the Apleni family have spoken out about their
horror after finding Ms Kiva’s body in a shack in Siyangena informal settlement in Philippi on
Thursday January 10.

This week, Nonkululeko Apleni told Vukani she is still trying to come
to terms with her daughter’s murder. Sitting at her home,
the 71-year-old said Ms Kiva had been killed by her abusive boyfriend before he turned the gun on himself.

“This is a terrible thing to
happen. It has hurt us all in
the family. Her boyfriend was very abusive. Days before she was killed she was here to ask me to make a plan to leave him but later we heard about her killing,” she told Vukani.

“My daughter had dreams to
go to the college and do tourism. Her dream has just vanished in thin air,” said the devastated mother.

She said her only dream now is to be able to bury her daughter. “We have nothing and we would like to get assistance,” she said. Ms Kiva’s brother, Siyabulela Apleni, echoed the call for assistance.

Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Captain Bheki Xulu confirmed the incident, and that
the suspect shot at the police before killing Ms Kiva and later himself.
