A 23-year-old Philippi East woman’s family are demanding justice after she was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend.
Yoleka Xokashe’s body was found at her boyfriend’s home on Sunday August 13, according to her family.
Her 27-year-old boyfriend has been charged with her murder, and he appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday August 22, and was remanded in custody pending his next appearance, according to Philippi-East police station spokesman Captain Granville Meyer.
Ms Xokashe, who leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter, was last seen alive on Thursday August 10 when she went to her boyfriend’s place, said her uncle, Thembelani Xokashe.
According to him, a relative went looking for Ms Xokashe on Sunday morning after she had still not returned home by then.
The boyfriend had told the relative that Ms Xokashe was still asleep and he would let her know when she woke up that the relative had come by to look for her.
However, a neighbour who had then gone to the home had been unable to wake Ms Xokashe and had found she had no pulse.
“He went to call my brother, and they found out she had two deep stab wounds in the back of the head,” said Mr Xokashe.
“When they turned the bed around, they discovered a pool of blood and a broken golf stick.
“But the boyfriend kept saying that he found her near a dam with blood and wounds then he carried her. We are very saddened by her passing. She did not deserve to die like that.
“What hurts us the most is the fact that she leaves a very young child behind who still yearns for her mother’s love.
“She was my sister’s first-born child, and we were still looking for more from her.”
The dead woman’s sister, Nontuthuzelo Xokashe, called for justice and said her sister’s alleged killer should be denied bail.
