One of the brightest young minds in Africa, the co-founder and director of Emagqabini Education Academy, Cindy Mkaza-Siboto is bringing affordable revision classes to matriculants in the townships.
Ms Mkaza-Siboto was recently recognised as one of the 100 Brightest Young Minds in Africa. She is the co-founder of Emagqabini Education Academy is an educational non-profit organisation that strengthens support to young people from the township through academic support, mentorship and career planning. “The academy would like to see every young person in South Africa succeed through their high school years, so that they can be productive citizens that contribute to the economy”, said Ms Mkaza-Siboto.
The most recent venture introduced by the academy is to bring affordable quality education to township pupils.
And from Saturday October 21 until Saturday November 4, the academy will be partnering with teachers from private schools to help matriculants from townships, starting with Khayelitsha and Soweto. The classes will focus on mathematics and physics, covering papers one and two.
Sessions will cost R60 per person and the money raised will go towards funding the academy’s regular year- long programme of free tutoring for high school pupils in Khayelitsha. The Academy is currently supporting 60 pupils in Grade 8 to 12 in Khayelitsha and in future would like to see this number increase.
