The Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha has opened a shelter for puppies and kittens.
The Tots with Tails “creche” was made possible with support from the Dogs Trust International, according to the animal clinic’s spokesperson Marcelle du Plessis.
“This facility has been built and is now ready to serve as a safe haven for our youngest residents,” she said.
The shelter has space for puppies and kittens to socialise and exercise and there is also a meet-and-greet zone for potential adopters.
“By housing our young animals separately from older ones and strategically distancing them from the main hospital, we can significantly reduce their risk of exposure to potential diseases and viruses,” Ms Du Plessis said.
