Khayelitsha police officers donated 27 pairs of school shoes to Vuzamanzi Primary School, in Site C, on Friday last week.
Khayelitsha police spokesperson Constable Asanda Daweti said officers at the station had raised R1200 to buy the shoes.
They wanted to show that they cared about the community that they had sworn to serve and protect, she said.
“We hope that these children will one day say that my life changed when police officers donated school shoes to my school, and I benefited from their good hearts. If we had more, we would have given each and every child a pair of school shoes.
“We know that some parents are unable to meet their children’s basic needs, and we are hoping our donations have made a difference.”
School principal Mcebisi Mnconywa said the donation showed there were caring people behind the police badges.
Thanking the officers for coming to the aid the school’s needy pupils, he said it was hard for children in torn shoes to feel good about themselves and that could hurt their school work.
