The Khayelitsha Book Festival returns for its third year on Saturday September 21, at the Kilombo Village, in Khayelitsha.
Hosted by Zimkitha Macengulashe Zilo, publisher and founder of Uhlanga Books under the theme “Narratives of the Resilient: Our Lived Experiences Become Our Literature”, the festival will highlight and celebrate the powerful voices and stories from our communities.
This year’s festival will feature the launch of two new books: In Her Perspective, She Wrote, a collection of short stories by black women, offers a diverse array of narratives that reflect the richness of their experiences. The book includes a foreword by the renowned author Vuyokazi Ngemntu.
The second book to be launched is a poetry anthology by Lumkile Mzukwa titled Pain and Love That Is Blackly Written. Lumkile, the founder of Lumkile’s Book Joint in Gugulethu, presents a moving collection that delves into themes of love, pain, and resilience, offering a poignant reflection on the experience of black people.
The festival will also host discussions on two notable works: No Time to Mourn by the poet and author Thandiwe Nqanda, and The Bus People by Chumile Sali, a lawyer and activist.
The Khayelitsha Book Festival aims to create a welcoming space for authors, readers, and literary enthusiasts to come together, share stories, and celebrate our diverse narratives.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, there will be performances by local artists.
