Museum tackles gangs

In an effort to discourage high school pupils from getting involved in gangsterism and crime, the newly instituted 18 Gangster Museum hosted the screening of two gang-related movies – Blood Money and Cape Town Gangs – on Tuesday March 29.

The event was aimed at creating awareness around gang-related activities in Khayelitsha and its surrounding areas.

Co-founder of the 18 Gangster Museum, Wandile Nqeketho, said many high school pupils had joined gangs because of peer pressure or curiosity, without realising the consequences or how drastically the decision could impact – and limit – their lives.

He said the museum aims to reinforce the fight against crime and gangsterism through introducing true life stories about the dangers of getting involved in criminal activities.
