Mourning more women

Nwabisa Mthumeni was found injured at Monwabisi Beach, but died in hospital.

In spite of a week of demonstrations and a mass gathering at Parliament, calling for an end to the murder of women and children, the communities of Taiwan community in Site C and Gugulethu were plunged into mourning last Friday when two more women were killed.

Nwabisa Mthumeni, who had been abducted in the early hours of Friday morning, was later found at Monwabisi Beach, but died in hospital.

According to residents, Ms Nthumeni had been asleep in her home on Friday when unknown men entered her Site C home and kidnapped her. Her boyfriend, who had allegedly been shot by unknown assailants, is in a critical but stable condition at Tygerberg Hospital.

Also on Friday morning, residents of Gugulethu woke up to the news that a young woman had her head crushed with rocks near Lwazi Primary School in NY112.

Police said the woman’s identity had not yet been confirmed.

NGO Ilitha Labantu has since called on the community and the government to take a stand against violent crime.
