Mfuleni demands school

Pupils roaming the streets of Mfuleni with nothing to do.

Questions have been raised about the Western Cape Department of Education’s (WCED) seriousness to get speedy placement for more than thousand children who were out of school in Mfuleni.

Since last Friday, teaching at all 10 schools in Mfuleni has been severely impacted as local leaders “shut down” schools in protest over pupils who have not been placed at schools yet.

The WCED has criticised the closure of schools and said it won’t be tolerated.

Up until yesterday, schools had not been functioning properly, but leaders said there was hope that they might open soon. Speaking to Vukani on Wednesday February 6, community leader Oyisa Sono said parties are seemingly moving towards reaching a compromise.
