Residents of the Covid-19 shanty town in Driftsands say they are still in shock after finding the body of an unidentified man, who had been stabbed several times, lying in a street on Sunday morning.
Nokwakha Ganyaza told Vukani she had heard screams in the night, but, as a young woman, she had feared going out to investigate.
“I knew something wrong was happening, so I didn’t want to open my door. Early in the morning, I went outside and saw the body of a man. I was shocked because the body had several stab wounds and there was a lot of blood on the ground,” she said.
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said they were investigating a murder.
“Police members were called to the crime scene where they saw the victim had multiple injuries to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. The suspects are yet to be arrested,” said Sergeant Twigg.
