The Lungile Mtshotwana Foundation handed over tablets and school shoes at Sinethemba High in Philippi, and Washington Drive Primary and Tafelsig High School in Mitchell’s Plain last week.
Chairperson of the foundation, Unathi Mtshotwana, was accompanied by celebrities including actresses Rami Chuene, Lungelo Mpungose and Dineo Langa, actors Sandile Mhlongo and Siphesihle Vazi and Springbok assistant coach, Mzwandile Stick, on Thursday May 16.
Mr Mtshotwana spoke to pupils at Sinethemba High.
He said the main purpose for their visit was to encourage pupils to study further and they provided girl students with financial support.
“I know how it feels to do matric not knowing where you are going to study when you pass, because back at home there is no money.
“But I want you to know that in life you won’t succeed in life if you have no respect.”
Rugby coach Stick said the best advice he could give to Tafelsig High pupils was, “Be with the right people.”
He said the right people uplift others and don’t go around showing off.
“When you go and do an extra lesson after school, if you know that you can save the person next to you, be the right person. Don’t be the one that walks around asking, ‘Do you know who I am?’ When you go to your exams throughout the year, please do me a favour and be the right people. Whatever goal that you have, please surround yourself with people who speak to your goal and vision.”
Coach Stick added that in order to achieve something in life you must not spend time surrounded by people who do the opposite of your dreams. He told the pupils that after finishing matric they must not think they achieved something big, but they must know that it’s just the beginning of great things.
Actress Lungelo Mpungose who plays Nikiwe on the television drama series of the same name, was one of the guest speakers who spoke at Washington Drive Primary.
“I want to make sure that you understand the importance of respect, if you listen, good things happen to you, respect, obey and be disciplined so you can achieve good things in your life.”
She told the pupils not to forget to pray and also to listen to their parents and teachers because they know the way. “Please listen and involve yourself in activities that will challenge you and make you what you want to be in the future.”
