Learn to grow your own food

The garden of Mthebo Buso, who did the Soil for Life Home Food Gardens programme last year. His tiny garden now yields lots of healthy food.

Non-profit organisation Soil for Life is inviting unemployed people to join their 12-week Home Food Gardens programme.

Training starts in June and residents of Harare, Green Point, Khuyasa and Nkanini in Khayelitsha, Gugulethu and Mfuleni Ext 4 can apply.

Trainees are taught sustainable, affordable ways to grow organic vegetables in the smallest of spaces. No experience is needed, but applicants must commit to weekly training for 12 weeks. The cost of R15 a person includes expert training, support and a vegetable garden starter kit with seeds, compost and mulch.
