A man from Lwandle is being questioned by police following the death of a police officer on Christmas morning.
The 33-year-old constable, stationed at Lingelethu West police station in Khayelitsha, was found dead in Lwandle near Strand on Sunday December 25.
Western Cape police spokeswoman Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the police officer, whose identity is being withheld until his family has been informed, had suffered stab and gunshot wounds.
She said the officer’s firearm had been taken and the state-issued car he was driving had been found some metres from his body. She added that robbery as a motive could not be ruled out.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old woman from Elsies River was arrested on Saturday December 24 on gun-related charges, after she was found with an automatic Norinco pistol at a house in Fabriek Street in Eureka, say police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi.
He added that a 47-year-old man had been found with two stun grenades inside a wendy house inside the same yard and was arrested.
In Delft, a 42-year-old man was arrested on gun- and drug-related charges after he was found with drugs, cash and a shotgun with ammunition.
