Members of the Keep Them Safe Project (KTSP) from Langa and Bonteheuwel flew out of the country on Wednesday January 16 to participate in an international youth conference in the Netherlands.
KTSP coordinator Khazimla Bakana said the trip was a highlight for them because many children had not flown before and they were all excited.
“We are a group of youth from Langa under the banner of Keep Them Safe Project and Bonteheuwel High School that were invited by Global Exploration to take part in their exchange programme,” said Ms Bakana.
She said this was the first time for South Africa to be represented in the programme.
The conference is about sustainable development goals.
“Young people from around the globe will proudly represent their countries. I am happy because my team is well prepared,” she said.
As part of the programme, the youth will visit several schools and universities to discuss sustainable goals with other students. They will also visit Dutch cultural places and many other interesting projects.
“They will engage in conversation and find ways to make the world a safer and conducive space for every young person,” said Ms Bakana.
She said they will return to Mzansi and focus on building safer, healthier and sustainable communities.
