The Eziko Cooking School in partnership with the Italian Embassy hosted an Italian Cuisine Show at Langa last week.
Top Italian chef Alfous Caputo shared his pizza-making secrets with Eziko students while Pedro Estrada Belli from Vinotria SA Italian Wine taught the students the intricacies of food and wine pairing.
The event was attended by Italian
Consular Emanuello Pollio and the owner of Tavern Del Capitano, Mariella Caputo.
Eziko Cooking School head of training, Eric Bingo, said the 12 students were excited to “rub shoulders with top guys in the business”.
“They learnt a lot and we are very happy with the partnership we have with the Italian Embassy.
“This will expose Eziko trainees to Italian cuisine and also give an added advantage in landing jobs in Italian restaurants around the Western Cape,” he said.
The students were taught to how make pizza, mozzarella cheese and about food and wine pairing.
He said the Italian way of making pizza was very popular with the locals and will now be made in house at Eziko.
Eziko comprises of the Eziko Cooking and Catering School and the Eziko Restaurant.
The school helps to provide the unemployed with vocational skills and therefore employment opportunities in cooking, catering and hospitality.
The restaurant offers the students first-hand experience of working in the catering industry.
