Doctors and nurses from Khayelitsha District Hospital’s paediatric department held a Christmas party for their young patients on Wednesday last week.
One hundred children were served lunch and received party packs, toys and knitted teddies during the party, which staff contributed towards.
The annual event was a chance for children who are stuck at the hospital over Christmas to experience some festive cheer, said one of the organisers, Dr Jana Hoole.
“I love to see these children dance and have fun,” she said.
Kate Christie Wade, the founder of The Friends of KDH, a non-profit company that supports the hospital, said they had appealed to donors to support the Christmas party, which had led to the Catholic Women’s League donating more than 100 knitted teddy bears.
Hospital nurse Ntsikelelo Manono said the day was a way for the hospital to show its young patients that it cared about them.
