The Tokwe family of Mfuleni got a surprise on Saturday when a construction company visited the family of 12 to donate some much needed household items.
Maletswai Contract donated second-hand furniture, brand new pots, and a microwave and has promised to revamp the family’s shack
Mother Zoleka Tokwe said she was grateful for the help after their shack burned down in 2019.
She said it has been stressful waking up daily worrying about what the family is going to eat, what they are going to wear and about their living conditions.
“We had all our things burn down and we have no one working. You can imagine the trauma that we have been through all these years. These items that are donated to us are going to make a huge difference. We are 12 in all in this shack and have no one working,” she said.
According to the founder of Maletswai Contract, Sindile Khethelo, his company is celebrating five years in the industry so wanted to identify and help a family that was disadvantaged.
Mr Khethelo said he founded the company in 2018 and business was difficult during the pandemic. “At least now there is a light that is why I am able to help people such as this family. We aim to rebuild this shack. We have our own struggles but nothing stops us from helping others,” he said.
Father Mkhululi Tokwe added that the family lives on his sole grant. He was thankful to Mr Khethelo and his construction. He wished the company well in its work.
