Hampers distributed to Gugulethu community

Grocery packages for community residents delivered by Yizani Sakhe, in partnership with Ilitha Labantu and the national Department of Social Development, at NY3, in Gugulethu.

Ilitha Labantu, and the Department of Social Development, helped by the KTC Neighbourhood Watch, supplied grocery hampers to 539 people from Gugulethu at the Phakama Community Healthcare Centre last Thursday.

The centre’s director, Mabatho Tileing, said they had been cooking for people at the centre since 2015, however, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they opted to supply the community with food packages instead.

Ms Tileing said although
most of their activities have been paused to curb the spread of the virus, “we also have an after-care and creche service, life-skills, drama, and youth workshops at the centre”.

The programme director
at Illitha Labantu, Zintle Dziba,
said they had 20 nutritional development centres around the province.

Usually, they feed 350 people from each community, but because of the pandemic, they had also opted to distribute grocery packages to the community.
